Leading in the very Moment

An SF24 Session

Jul 11, 2023

Annie Bordeleau

Introduced by Carey Glass

The paradigm of leadership is shifting. We begin to understand better how to lead in complexity rather than force linearity. What does it mean to sense and adapt to change rather than drive change? Here, Annie Bordeleau shares three Solution Focus listening experiments to train that difference.

Annie has the capacity to stop you in your tracks. Charismatic, gentle, personable, and thoughtful, she projects magnificently on screen. She matches her interest, curiosity, and capacity to engage, with the quality of creativity and thinking put into what she presents. This combination helps leaders to accompany their employees to think better in their presence.

She achieves this through three diagrams that elegantly and fluidly symbolise the change in thought patterns we use in SF. These diagrams allow leaders to glide into doing things differently – moving from driving to being with their staff.

Annie enhances this experience through a change in pace and imagination, which we experience in the session, placing us on a beach as a felt analogy for noticing and working with emergence. This redirection of our attention takes the often banal and empty use of imagining on a beach and turns it into a powerful change mechanism. This mechanism helps leaders feel a sense of space to observe what is emerging and how to focus on it.

Many thanks to Annie for a fantastic piece of work that helps make what can be so elusive about SF plain to see and use.
